Effective communication is central to the reliable and timely coordination of care to patients by healthcare professionals. While there are multiple communication "apps" available there are very few that are designed specifically for healthcare, the healthcare user and meet the necessary but important information governance standards required. Medic bleep is a true platform agnostic communication tool available on Android, iOS and PC that can importantly operate with or independent of a healthcare organisation's existing IT infrastructure with 3G/4G/5G and WiFi compatibility subject to the technical restrictions of the device and environment from which it is operating in. Fundamentally, it is a secure instant messaging tool with the ability to send photos and file attachments; and to make in-app voice calls (VOIP) without a need to know the other user's phone number. It has numerous clinically important features that include: - User friendly intuitive interface with minimal training required to use it - Ability to create different chat streams that can be individual, team and patient specific - Ability to organise and prioritise tasks with others in a team on the go - Ability to set baton roles and do not disturb status to notify who to contact or direct to suitable alternative It is designed with clinical safety in mind with many features that satisfy the needs of the clinical user whilst also adhering to the NHS information governance requirements. These include: - A user directory that requires both user and organisational authentication - "WhatsApp" style message sent, delivered and read notifications - Within a team/group message, the ability to determine the read status by individuals within that team - Ability to set on-call, available and not available modes including a reminder to check status when leaving work if previously available - Overriding silent phone setting to enable sound and visual notifications when in on-call or available mode - Preventing in-device screenshots from being taken - In-app camera enabling secure image management I have been a Medic Bleep user for over 3 years and the issues reported by other reviewers in relation to disconnections and impacting on battery life in my experience seem to relate to the reliability of the IT infrastructure and user set and default battery saving features that lead to the constant switching of the device's data connection. Unfortunately, these factors are not directly within the control of the app itself. The developers take patient safety and user experience very seriously; and will act upon user feedback. This has been evident by the way in which they have continually looked at ways of improving Medic bleep over the years with new features that improve upon the previous iterations. In summary, Medic bleep is a truely platform agnostic healthcare communication tool that is far more than simply a bleep replacement system. It has been thoughtfully designed with the clinical user in mind whilst focus on ensuring patient safety remains a central core theme. Alternatives only aspire to be like it.
Used for 6 months at West Suffolk Hospital and what an amazing piece of software this is. Totally changed the way we as medical staff communicated and saved so much time waiting around for a reply. Quite upset now that I've moved and back to old bleep!
